The Financial Advisor Career

The most rewarding thing about a financial planning career is the ability to help, not just give investment advice, but really help in terms of all the things that can happen in all the different life stages.

The right career to make a difference

As an Ameriprise financial advisor, you'll do more than talk with clients about the numbers. You'll develop long lasting relationships as you learn more about your clients — their goals, their worries and their dreams. You'll become a vital resource as they plan and prepare for the future. And you'll have the support, flexibility and unlimited income potential that comes with a successful career as a financial advisor. So as you help clients plan to achieve their dreams, you'll be working toward achieving your own.

And you don't need a degree in finance to become an Ameriprise financial advisor. Many of our advisors came from the financial services industry while others came from entirely different careers such as small business owners, consultative sales professionals, teachers, corporate managers, accountants, military personnel or other professions. Others joined us upon graduation. Regardless of your path, if your experience has taught you to listen and communicate clearly, to be organized, ethical and open to learning — you already have the skills critical to success as a financial advisor. Your talent, ability to create and cultivate relationships with clients as well as your entrepreneurial drive can determine your success.

The right time

It's an exciting time to begin your career as a financial advisor at Ameriprise Financial. The need for financial advisors is growing as an estimated 78 million baby boomers,1 with $1.7 trillion in assets, approach retirement within the next 15 years.2 Generation X is right behind them, focusing on family and preparing to pursue their passion as they plan for the future. These trends are driving the growing demand for qualified financial advisors and financial planning services.
